With multi-zone heating and cooling, the homeowner, as well as everyone else living in the home, has much more control over how warm and cool different rooms are. With a central heating and cooling unit the entire house has to be set to the same temperature.
2010915The same is true for heating and cooling. One thermostat turning on the heating or cooling for the entire house, when you only need it in one room or zone, wastes energy. Our goal is to help educate our customers about energy and home comfort issues (specific to HVAC systems).
2014212A zoned HVAC system is a cost-effective solution to dual air systems that need separate furnaces and air conditioners for different areas of the home. It is especially effective in homes that have large open areas like solariums, multiple levels, large glass windows and sprawling designs.
In houses with dual-zone, why do they put the 2nd floor furnace in the attic? My parents' home is two stories and almost 3,000 square feet. It has a Goodman 13 SEER 2.5-ton straight-cool air-conditioner for the 1st floor/basement and a Goodman 13 SEER 2-ton straight-cool A/C for the 2nd floor.
No heat un zone one From the advice you have received and all you have done it appears everything in boiler room is working and your 1st level is frozen. Is it cold enough were you live to freeze pipes? Why are you heating the garage if the pipes above it are working? Remember heating loop is one circle, out of the boiler and back.

A simple, common sense analysis of un-zoned systems will show you how much you can save. Imagine a 2-zone home with the living room as one zone and the bedroom the other. Un-zoned systems will always heat/cool both rooms at the same time even if only one zone is being occupied. This means that twice the necessary energy is being used.
On a w body car with a single temp adjustment control (not a dual zone) your problem should be a low refrigerant charge. Due to the design of this evaporator, a low refrigerant charge will cause the furthest areas from the inlet and outlet hoses (the drivers side) to not remove the heat from the incoming air.
Re: Dual zone: Zone 2 only works when Zone 1 is running Thanks for the responses. I have checked with a few neighbors but they are not having problems. I'll see if I can chat with a few more. It is a warm air heat and cool system. I agree it sounds like it might be a damper issue and might be best to call a professional.

2007921If you are not adding to the system then one circulator and the zone valves should work fine. Understand that if the circulator fails there will be no heat anywhere whereas if you use multiple circulators you can have heat in the zones that have an operating pump.
(I am talking the drain valve on the individual heating loop - NOT the one at the bottom of the boiler). Upper loop thermostat has to be set high enough to be "on" for upper loop while doing this, or turn off main furnace power switch (at wall) or breaker and open the zone valve with the manual lever to open it, so water can flow through the loop.
